Reflections on the road home IT’s TIME to take TIME!
We started reading the book Profit First by Mike Michalowicz. Mike presents a fascinating concept, and as we discussed it together, it has affected us. We are not sure it’s the way the he intended, I guess we will have to finish the book to find out.
The idea he lays out early is that if you do not take profit from your company first, there will never be profits to be had. We tend to use all of our resources for the tasks at hand and often don’t leave enough left for ourselves and our families.
We reflected on why we started this business 2 years ago. Do we want to be profitable? Of course, we do. But what we want more than that is time, connection, and experiences.
For any entrepreneurs out there, you will know that running a business is incredibly consuming. For any parents out there you’ll know that raising kids can be the same. For any out there doing both at once, you have our condolences and we need yours.
We have decided to expand the title of this book in our lives beyond just profit to include TIME! It is very easy to consume every minute of the day with what “needs to get done”. If we could add an hour, we would use it.
We have realized as a family that if we do not choose to take TIME first the weeks, months and years will slip away. We will have failed the core reason for starting this adventure in the first place.
We’ve spent the last 5 days skiing with our family. It was incredible in every way and we will share these memories for our lifetimes.
We have committed to do this again. Soon. Often. It won’t always be 5 days away. It may be 5 hrs or 5mins but it will be worth it.
Take the time, or whatever you feel is most important your life, FIRST. Even just a little bit. We believe it will always be worth it.
